Red, White and Rose! (Bubbles too)
The name says it all, a pack befitting the upcoming Forth of July holiday patriotically priced at $76.
10% of the proceeds from the sale of this pack will benefit the Friends of Washington Park and Zoo Railway, a local 501c(3) that is dedicated to the full restoration and future preservation of the Oregon Zoo and Washington Park Railway. The railway, originally meandering for 30 minutes throughout Washington Park, under majetic Douglas Fir and with sweeping vistas of Portland and the Zoo was damaged in 2013 and now runs for just 6 minutes on an our and back route. Running for over 50 years the Zoo train was a classic part of many Portlanders' and visitors childhoods. The Friends of the Oregon Zoo Railway want to make sure it is here for years to come!
This is the second of many more packs that will benefit a local organization, non-profit or charity. Our first was Family Meal PDX. We raised over $100, let's do better this time!
1. Red - Lapis Luna Wines, Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Limited Reserve 2019 - What wine could be more patriotic than Napa Cabernet!? Crafted by Lapis Luna since 1999, which translates to Stone and Moon. Their labels are fascinating and that's because they are 400 years old, well, kind of. Using 400 year old Copperplate engravings to depict the relationship between the earth (stone), the moon (luna), and the effect she has on us. As the winery says, "On our label, the heroes are depicted striving to connect with the moon and looking to it for inspiration, just as we do when creating our wines." If you like rich and lush wines, this is for you. This Cab is fruit forward with lush flavors, nice balance and a long, silky finish.
2. White - Niepoort, Dócil Vinho Verde Loureiro 2019 - Ok, so literally Vinho Verde is green wine, but I'll let it slide. The “Dócil” from Dirk Niepoort is composed entirely of Loureiro, grown on granite in the Minho region of Portugal, which is the Vinho Verde DOC. Typically Vinho Verde has a slight bubble and pop to it because of CO2, that is what makes this wine so unique and such a great refresher in the summer. This is very good Vinho Verde.
3. Rose - Domaine Gavoty, Côtes De Provence Récital Rosé 2020 - Finally a Provence Rosé. They were quite hard to find in my last offering, but they are here and just in time and worth the wait. Roselyn Gavoty, is the eighth generation of Gavoty to helm her family’s domaine since her ancestor Philémon acquired it in 1806. Domaine Gavoty encompasses 50 hectares of vines on a Roman-era farm in the commune of Cabasse called Campdumy (“harvest fields” in old Provençal), situated along the snaking Issole River in the northwestern sector of the Côtes de Provence appellation. Comprised of 45% Syrah, 45% Grenache and 10% Carignan, this is classic Provence and lip smackingly good!
4. Bubbles! Cleto Chiarli, Lambrusco di Sorbara Secco Vecchia Modena Premium - Full disclosure, I poured this at our baby shower and it was an absolute hit and it was even raining out. Nothing stops this Lambrusco. This is technically a Red Lambrusco, but looks and tastes like a Rose because of the light maceration. Evertone loved it! Because of the bright acidity pair with fatty or grilled foods, Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and lasagna just to name a few. Made from 100% Lambrusco di Sorbara, the most elegant and highest quality of the Lambrusco clones. Wine Enthusiast summed this up better than I ever could, "this vibrant, delightful wine opens with heady violet and red berry scents. The refined, almost ethereal palate delivers crushed raspberry, strawberry, tangerine and ginger notes alongside tangy acidity." If you love sparkling wine, but want something a bit heavier than Champagne or Cava to hold up to your grilled meats or rainy days this is your wine.
